For a limited time only!

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

It is that time of year again. I seem to find myself with a little more time again after the busy summer period. So how do I fill my time? Daytime TV? Extra cleaning? accounts? planning? Well those can all wait. I think this is the best time of the year to get out and about in Scotland. With the threat of the weather changing any day and winter arriving early, a nice spell in autumn is such a tonic.

So I find a number of ways to torture myself in the great outdoors. Golf, never a truer word spoken than a good walk spoiled! With steam coming out of my ears I have to convince myself it is time and money well spent and try and enjoy the scenery.

I have a couple of 10k runs coming up over the next two weeks so I have been trying to get out and do a bit of training. Wee Jim was here for a couple of weeks so we managed to drag ourselves out a couple of times. He is coming back this weekend for the Anster 10k with the promise of Sunday lunch of course!
Then Inverness 10k the next weekend and before you know it, it will be November;accounts planning and extra cleaning…..I hope the torture lasts!!

John McFetridge, director of The Winter Adventure Company, owner of La Vieille Forge, Berlou and Traiteur a domicile Can now add media star to his list of titles.

We were invited to take part in The Hotel Inspector TV show, presently running on Channel Five. The idea was for us as a travel company to inspect a hotel on the show with a view to taking clients there. John visited the Hotel du Repos, Val D’Illiez, Switzerland which had had the specialist attention of the show’s expert.

We are pleased to announce we will be taking clients to the Hotel du Repos this winter as part of my ski clinics for intermediate, advanced and expert skiers.

You can watch the show again tonight, Friday at 8pm on Channel FiveR (Freeview 30 Sky 176)

1st Time for Everything

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

It’s a funny phrase isn’t it? There is a first time for everything

Well we had a couple of firsts within the space of two minutes last night!

My sister Marsaili and her family were here for a couple of days and my nephew Robbie was keeping us all entertained. He has this great laugh you see, it seems much more grown up than his seven months and he uses it to great effect, even better when married to a pointing finger.
Anyway Robbie’s Dad Jamie had had such fun with the wee man watching Crail High Street pass them by that he decided to feed him at the front door in the evening sun:

No sooner had we had a chuckle at my new, trendy, pavement, dining experience when 1st number two appeared, on a tandem….
Yep my first tandem clients arrived, The Boggon Party with a lovely Claud Butler Tandem, cool

Here is a photo of them setting off this morning, I promised not to video them as they confessed they wobble a bit until they get the speed up!

It’s not too late!

Wow that was a pretty tough hundred miles in The Trossachs!

Its not too late to sponsor me

I had a really great time, perfect weather, superb organisation and a wonderful support team, Thanks Fi!!

With training in Fife the hilly terrain was a bit of a shock. Cries of ‘get in a low gear’ were no warning as I left Aberfoyle to go over The Dukes Pass. (Whoever he was did he not think about building a tunnel?)

And then it was almost funny going over Campsie Fell out of Lennoxtown after 75miles….but a great descent!

Well done Action Research…….I almost said see you next year! (well I see registration is open!)

Its not too late to sponsor me!

Just as I congratulate myself for getting back in the saddle somebody rides up to put your efforts into perspective!!

I puffed my way up and over Peat Inn yesterday and back! Invited to a BBQ in Cupar to counter balance the calorie intake it seemed wise to take the trusty Raleigh for company. Of course you compensate by eating twice as many burgers!! Nice ribs Neil.

Anyway I don’t recommend Stella for hydration purposes but I made it home.

A cancellation meant I had a room to sell so I was delighted when a lone cyclist rode up looking for a room. Guido had ridden from ‘near Braemar’. Well I have known some parties taking a whole day from Braemar and that is with the aid of a combustion engine!

So it turns out Guido is on a proper cycle tour of Great Britain and Ireland. As he rolled up in Crail on Dy 60 he had clocked up 5,000 kilometres and planned a further 1,500!!
You can follow his blog www.gb-tour.com You don’t have to read German, the photos tell the tale! (yes he has time to stop, take photos and write a blog)

Go Guido!

Go Guido!

Interesting fact: he has had two slow punctures in 5,000km!

Now this guy can ride!
